Macro Photo List

I will most likely take pictures of flowers in my neighborhood, and will try and find other smaller objects outside.
Rule of thirds is simple enough.
Leading lines could incorporate the stem of the flower.
Perspective could simply be done with a different angle.
S-curves can use the pollen of the flower or the stem, depending on what it looks like.
Balance could use multiple flowers or the petals.
Droplets on the petals can be used to make light a subject.
A dead flower and living flower can be used for contrast of content.
Circular composition can be made with the pollen of the flower.
An extreme close up of the petals can be rhythm/repetition.
Frame in a frame can be accomplished with using another flower to frame my subject.

Headshot/Self Portrait Plan

1. I will probably use two light sources and/or one light source and one reflector.
2. I will most likely use flash.
3. I will not need any because my father already have some.
4. I will probably just use someone else as my prop, then take one of myself.
5. I will try and find a lens around the 100mm-70mm length to get the best picture, and if not, then I will just get as close as I can.

Motion Preview

1. One might want to slow down their shutter speed to capture motion in the background rather than freeze it.
2. You can have the subject or camera move
3. You want a mode in which you have full control over the shutter speed.
4. You can use a neutral density filter, a smaller aperture, or a decreased ISO.

5. The starting ISO should be between 1/60 and 1/15
6. Because it is the fastest point to focus to.
7. With continuous drive, multiple photos are taken, so you can't mess up the shots as easily.

8. The AI Servo auto focus mode constantly focuses on a target subject so that the subject will be in focus.
9. Since the camera is continuously focusing, it is easier to capture a moving subject in focus.

10. The BBF will continuously focus, and separate the process in focusing manually with a half-button press, which is good for moving subjects.
11. The BBF will not be good for a still subject because the camera will keep focusing, looking for a moving subject where there is not, so the picture will be out of focus.

Wireless Sync and Remotes

1. Two, one for the flash and one for your hand.
2. A PocketWizard transmits signals via radio signals.
3. 10 channels are available
4. The led on top will indicate if it is set to receive.
5. You need three Plus X Pocket wizards, one for the camera, one for the flash, and one for yourself.

Virtual copies and Snapshots

1. You can only export one photo at a time with snapshots, because only the most recent snapshot is applied.
2. Since only the latest snapshot is applied, it will be copied with the latest snapshot.
3. If you press CMD and ' at the same time, a virtual copy will be made of the selected photo.
4. With virtual copies, you can export multiple photos at the same time.
5. If you delete the master copy of a photo, then the virtual copy will be deleted as well.

Stock Photography and Legal Issues

A model release form is a contract that can be signed by the model which officially lets the photographer use the likeness of the model in his or her pictures.
Keywords would be very useful in organizing my photos, and helping potential buyers in finding my work.
The logo or name may be trademarked or copyrighted which could cause some legal conflicts.
You should save space because people could use this space for advertising.

Companies like royalty-free images because they cost nothing to reproduce, while rights-managed images cost.
Royalty-free images should be used with caution, because other companies may use the same or a similar photo.
Rights managed photos are a viable option other than royalty-free photos because they are more conservative.
Rights managed photos are managed so that the people who use it are managed and so that not everyone can openly use them.

If I take pictures in an art museum which allows photographs to be taken and I photograph some paintings or sculpture, can I sell the photographs?
Taking pictures of art would also be a form of still life photography, which is why I am interested in it.

Still Life

Bowls of fruit, flowers, and bottles of liquids are usually used for still life.
A photographer needs to take all of the colors of the photo, the lighting, and what they want into account , because they can manipulate anything to get the perfect picture.
Focus on the objects in the picture is what is absolutely necessary, so aperture priority is needed.

I believe I could take still life of small objects around my house because my father has lots and lots of potential items.
People who want to buy stock photos, or people who want a general idea or theme.
It is an easy way to start and make money as an amateur commercial photographer.

I could arrange my rings, or some other things that are personal to me.
The meaning could be something about my personality considering they would all be my items.
I could use the rest of my room or my house as a background.

Free Shoot photos

The subject is the snail, and pattern on the snail's shell.

The subject here is the stigma and it's pollen nodules.

The subject here is the center of the flower.

Here, the subject is the stomata of the flower.

The subject here is the same as above, just zoomed in further.

I am happy about how they came out, but they seemed a bit blurry, so I should have used a tripod.
Next time I would use a tripod so that I can use a slower shutter speed.
I learned that with macro, you must use larger lenses with extremely high or low settings.

.RAW vs .JPEG

.RAW advantages :
- Higher quality
- More contrast
- Can be edited in depth
.RAW disadvantage :
- Uncompressed

.JPEG advantages :
- Small size
- Quick to save
- Doesn't need to be processed usually
.JPEG disadvantage :
- Compressed

A .jpeg file is an easy to use, but this comes at the cost of quality.
A .raw file has more quality, at the cost of time.

A .raw file contains all of the data from the picture, being unprocessed and uncompressed.
With a .raw file you can edit the exposure, white balance, contrast, highlights, shadows, colors and saturation.
When shooting in .raw you must take into account the camera being used, the memory card being used, and if you have the appropriate software.
If you start off with .raw, then you will be more comfortable with it and have more skill with it to help with your professional career.

Occasions to use .RAW

  • Professional photoshoots
  • The quality needs to be high - landscapes
  • Photos for a criminal case
Occasions to use .JPEG
  • Informal events
  • If time is of the essence - sporting events
  • You want a lot of photos, quickly - newspaper pictures

Free Shoot Planning

My subject will most likely be flowers on campus, and near my home.
I can shoot on campus, but I will most likely shoot out doors in a field near my house.
I will try to get up earlier than 10 to take photos, and after noon so the light will be more diffused.
Most likely, I will just use a high ISO or low shutter speed and not need a flash.
I might possibly need a different lens, but other than that, I don't believe I will need anything else.
The number of photos will mostly depend on how many things I can find, but will be above three.

Sunny 16 Rule Notes

  • The proper exposure is determined by the ISO of the film/sensor setting
  • Dawn and dusk are "Golden Hours"
  • For 10AM to 5PM the best shutter speed would be 1/100 with an aperture of f/16
  • With a sand or snow, the brightness would be increased the aperture should be f/22
  • LV = EV
  • Equivalent exposure can be achieved by balancing the aperture and shutter speed
  • Equivalent exposure is achieved when different frames that have the same amount of light but different aperture and shutter speed settings

Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
  The retina in the eye.
2. Finish this sentence: The smaller the Aperture the larger the opening, the higher the Aperture the smaller the opening.
